1. Introduction
Momently ("the App", "we", "our") is a personal emotional journaling app that helps you capture daily moments with photos and short videos, track your mood over time, and store private thoughts and voice notes.
Momently is designed around a fundamental principle: your data belongs to you and stays on your device. We do not operate servers, accounts, or cloud infrastructure. There is nothing to hack, leak, or sell because we never have your data.
2. Information We Process
The App processes the following categories of information, all stored locally on your device:
- Moments: photos, short videos (up to 10 seconds), captions, tags, timestamps, and favorite status.
- Mood entries: selected mood type, optional notes, and timestamps.
- Thoughts: text entries, type (wish, reflection, gratitude), optional voice notes, pin status, and timestamps.
- App preferences: onboarding status, notification settings, biometric lock preference, theme settings.
We do not collect, transmit, or store any of this data on external servers.
3. Local-Only Storage
All your journal entries, mood logs, thoughts, photos, videos, and voice notes are stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and the local file system.
No data is uploaded to any server, cloud service, or third-party platform. If you delete the app, all data is permanently removed from your device. There are no backups on our end because we never receive your data.
4. Photos, Videos & Audio
Momently requests device permissions to enable its core features:
- Camera: to capture photos and record short videos (max 10 seconds) for your moments.
- Photo Library: to select existing photos and videos from your gallery.
- Microphone: to record voice notes attached to your thoughts, and to capture audio during video recording.
All captured media is saved locally on your device. No media is uploaded, shared, or transmitted to any external service. You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's Settings app.
5. Third-Party Services
Momently does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or data collection services. The App uses only Apple system frameworks:
- SwiftData: for local database storage
- AVFoundation: for camera, video, and audio recording
- UserNotifications: for optional daily reminders (processed entirely on-device)
- LocalAuthentication: for optional Face ID / Touch ID lock
- StoreKit: for optional App Store rating prompts
None of these frameworks transmit your personal journal data to Apple or any third party.
6. Network & Analytics
Momently makes zero network requests. The App functions entirely offline. There are no analytics SDKs, no usage tracking, no device fingerprinting, and no ad networks.
We do not know how many users we have, how often you use the app, or what you write. That is by design.
7. Your Choices
You have full control over your data:
- Export: use the Export feature in Settings to download all your data as a JSON file.
- Delete all data: use the "Delete all data" option in Settings to permanently erase everything.
- Revoke permissions: disable camera, microphone, photo library, or notification permissions from your device's Settings at any time.
- Uninstall: deleting the app removes all data from your device permanently.
- Biometric lock: enable Face ID or Touch ID to prevent unauthorized access to your journal.
8. Children's Privacy
Momently is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since all data is stored locally and never transmitted, the App does not receive any information from any user, regardless of age.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in app features or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Our core commitment to local-only, private-by-design data handling will not change.
